What is involved?

PIPPI (Practical Interdisciplinary Pelvic Pain Intervention) is a group programme based on modern pain science, delivered by an experienced team who specialise in working with women experiencing ongoing pelvic pain.

Attending a PIPPI course includes learning about pain and things that are known to help those who live with pelvic pain – such as changes in diet, exercises, relaxation, mindfulness, managing stress, communicating differently about your pain with others, improving sleep, and the impact that pain has on your professional and intimate relationships.

We aim to keep each group small, so that your concerns and questions can be addressed while still receiving the benefits of being in a supportive group of women who have had similar experiences.

You do not have to share your story, or any of your medical history with the other participants, or talk about treatments that you have had before you joined the group; however, you may wish to share some of your experiences, which is your choice.

PIPPI is run from our central Christchurch clinic for four hours, each Tuesday afternoon, for six weeks. We ask that you do try and make it to all six of the sessions, even if your pain is bad that day – the team will help you manage.

You will be given ‘homework’ to do in between these weekly sessions. Doing this homework is a vital component of the treatment, so you will get the best outcome if you are able to set aside a little time each day to do the exercises we give you.

We can provide a medical certificate or letter for your employer if you need to miss work to attend.

The healthcare team follow the Ministry of Health public health guidelines for COVID-19. For the safety of the rest of the group we ask that, all attendees also follow the Ministry of Health recommendations.
